Impatience is a Virtue, Right?

I am the kid that searches for Christmas presents. I want to be given birthday presents 5 days ahead of time. I want to give people their Christmas presents on December 20th. I shop on Christmas Eve solely for the reason that I do not have to wait to give presents.

I hate surprises. I love being surprised, but hate the build up. Don't tell me you have a secret. Don't. Then I will want to know. And five minutes ago. I am awful at surprises. This is the reason that I got proposed to in my sweatpants on my front porch with almost only one eye of makeup. It was the only way poor Andy could get me by surprise. I can't deny it. This is a serious character flaw, but I would be lying if I said I want to fix it.

This explanation brings me to the hardest thing I have ever had to do to date. I love the Olympics. I love the precious gymnastic girls. I cannot wait to watch them tonight. SO IMAGINE MY INNER-TURMOIL WHEN I SAW THIS....

I didn't click on it. I am now ban from all forms of technology... My name is Megan and I have a problem.

Here's to hoping that the article reads Gold!  Go Team USA!!

GO Team USA!

Our friend Brandon came in town and that meant a night of fun fellowshippin' at his parents' house. We celebrated friends, the Olympics, and all things American. Like Hot Dogs and Homemade Ice Cream. We truly love this family.

Y'all. The Olympics tonight were awesome! Spoiler... America is better :)!! The girls gymnastics was amazing. It was almost as inspiring as '96. These girls stomped everyone and I am so happy! Swimming also didn't disappoint.

I think we were all pretty proud to be an American!! These pictures sum up our evening pretty perfectly.

Side note... I might have made t-shirts for me and bubba.

OLYMPICS!!

Tonight the Olympics started and Bubba and I watched the opening ceremonies. Team America ALL THE WAY!! The opening ceremonies were really neat. England is cool. I'm digging the music so far.

So my favorite parts in no particular order....

Voldemort
Mary Poppins
Mr. Bean
The Beatles
Learning that Al Gore didn't invent the Internet
David Beckham
Ryan Seacrest pretending to be legit.
The 61 year old athlete
Czech Republic rainboots
Making fun of North Korea
Matt Laur's snarky comments
"Djibouti winning a gold medal for its funny name."
The BeeGees on repeat
The Independent Olympic Athletes: they had swag
Seeing Dutchess Kate
Team USA
Great Britain's fancy clothes

I am a fan of the Olympics :) I may have even cheered U-S-A! U-S-A!

Date Night Farmer's Style

Tonight we went up the road to the Livingston Farmer's Market. It was such fun relaxed night with good food and good music. It might have been hot, but it sure was pretty.

We also saw Wyatt Waters who is a local artist that is very talented. He paints beautiful water color paintings. All in all it was a great night and right up the road. Can't beat that! Here are a few pictures of our evening. :) I had to take them because on top of the good food it really is simply beautiful in a charming way.

Wyatt Waters painting the blue grass band.

I love succulents.
Perfect end :)

Bring on Fall

For the first time ever in my life, I am SO ready for Fall. Now, don't get me wrong. I have always loved the season when it gets here, but I am so excited for it to arrive this year. I feel like Meg Ryan in "You've Got Mail" when she writes to Tom Hanks... "Don’t you just love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address."

It's a no-brainer that I am looking forward to the obvious things like...

Oldie, but goodie. Geaux Tigers!
But I am also looking for cooler weather, sweaters (or in the South just a shirt, but at least I won't sweat to death... I mean glisten), boots, tailgating food, and THE FAIR!!! For those that do not know this, I have an unnatural love of the MS State Fair. I guess growing up I didn't really experience the Fair, and so when I was introduced to it at age 19, I fell in love.  It is such a strange thing.  But I love the nasty food, crazy people, and poorly constructed rides. Not to mention the Pig Races.

I am ready for pumpkin carving and pretty leaves.  Last year we took our engagement pictures on the prettiest Fall day. Bring on the leaves. There is really no point to this random musing, but I just was overwhelmed with the desire to wear a scarf and some boots today while I was picking out what to wear to work that wouldn't make me die of a heat stroke. I suppose that is a benefit of being out of school. You can love a season for its great qualities, instead of dreading it simply due to the loss of freedom and return to school. Oh Lord, I think I just became an adult. Sigh.

Long Week

This week has been one of those weeks. I somehow contracted a double ear infection. Double woah.  But things are on the mend, and life will go on. Actually, I am feeling almost back to normal, but it was a rough beginning. The whole time I was sick in bed my girl Gert laid and stared at me. It was quite a sweet face.

I think that tonight Bubba and I are gonna hit up the Farmer's Market and enjoy the outdoors.

In other news... OUR WEDDING PICTURES ARE READY!! We got to preview them last night, and I absolutely love every single one. They are perfect.  I can't wait to post my favorites! Hope everyone is having a great week. Just think... it is almost the weekend!

Happy Birthday Fri!!

A Fri. Love you girl and all you mean to our friend group! So glad you are now 26 like the rest of us :)! You are an incredible friend and I (and everyone else) is so glad you were born! I love a good countdown, so here are my top ten favorite things about you.

10. You rock a jr. high nickname that has stuck. (Even though you try and be Amanda...Seriously, who is that Fri?)

9. You read every night without fail and soak up your books.

8. You are kind in your soul and love people.  A great example is that you allow my niece to call you French Fri, and make her roll laughing calling her Hot Dog.

7. You are disciplined in a manner that I can only dream about being.

6. You are a fabulous teacher that cares deeply about her students.

5. You love the Ellen show as much as I do.

4. You have a great bed.  I used to take naps on it while I was in Law School and never told you. :)

3. You make me laugh and others laugh too.

2. You get crazy after 8 pm, but you stay up anyway and make us all life as the night goes on and you end in hilarious tears.

1. You are one of the best friends a girl could ask for, and we are all so thankful the Lord put you with all of us! :)

We went to eat at Cock of the Walk tonight.

Yummy Mandarin Orange Cake

I made a pretty delicious cake tonight. It was super easy (as in I made it on a whim while cooking actual dinner) and very light and summery.

Mandarin Orange Cake:

2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 tsp baking soda
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2- 11 oz cans of mandarin oranges (use the juice)

Combine all ingredients and place in a 9x13 greased and floured pan. Cook for about 30-35 min on 350.

I used a glazed tonight; however, I think cool whip topping would be fantastic.

Glaze:

1 cup brown sugar
6 tbsp milk
6 tbsp butter

Combine in a saucepan and bring to boil for about 2 min. Pour over hot cake.

This cake also goes great with vanilla ice cream. But let's be real... What doesn't!

Bad picture, but you get the idea.

Anderson also agreed that it was tasty.  Happy baking everyone!

Weekend Recap

This weekend was mighty fun! It started out with me driving to Monroe and hanging out with my parents and a certain precious individual. No, not my big, fat cat Snickers. But this beauty... Baby C!!

I mean. Look at that perfection.

This may be my favorite picture ever.  She clearly thinks I am insane.
Saturday night we had a little wedding reception/party/get together for our Monroe friends and family to celebrate the wedding. It was so great to see so many people that have been apart of my life and just mean so much to me and my family. The night was so fun!

Bubba and I before the party. We both look a little cray cray.

How sweet.  :)
Sunday, we headed home and worked on a few projects.  Then we just cleaned up and relaxed a bit. We went to sleep like any normal night... ONLY TO BE WOKEN AT 4:30 BY THE SMOKE DETECTOR!! No worries. It was a false alarm. But the bags under my eyes are code red. Looking and feeling a little rough this Monday morning.

Hope you all have a great week!

Channeling Martha Stewart

Well this afternoon sure has been fun.  I did that thing where I say... "this will only take five minutes..." then, hours later we are still working on a project.  But I am not sad I did this today.  Have you ever had one of those moments where you think if I have to look at something for one more minute I will scream? Well I have. And it involved curtains and dining room chairs.  First, I should mention that we finally got our new couch!! And I am obsessed and love it.  Here she is in all her glory!

Um. Love.
Now. Please look to the right of the couch. Your right, its left.  and notice the curtain... The one inch too short. 7th grade high-water pants. Channeling Steve Urkel curtains.  They HAD to go.  But I am cheap and I figure that with all that pinterest reading I should put some to use. So, I made curtain skirts.  And I have to say it was really easy (because I used no sew bonding) and they are remarkably sturdy.  Here is an after shot.

Much better.  We raised the curtain rod about a foot and it makes the window look so much better.  And the fabric adds a little fun color. Next, we recovered our dining room chairs that are in the big room.  Bubba took off the old, awful fabric, and I whipped out the staple gun for some aggression therapy... I mean re-upholstering.  They look swell now. Nothing fancy, just not stained and creepy anymore.

I think that these projects have done me in for the day. Nap time? I believe so.  But I now am much happier. Time to park it on the new red couch.

Beauty.

The Lord is showing off tonight. Wow. The beauty of the earth sometimes takes my breath away.

Weekend Recap: Girls Beach Trip Edition

Let's just say that I could not wait for this weekend! It was so much fun and just a really great time. Some of my friend group (unfortunately not everyone could come) decided it was time to get to the beach. Even if for just a day and a half. Which is exactly what we did.

We drove to the beach early Saturday morning with the cooler packed full of water because it was as hot as the face of the sun and parked it on the beach all day. We read, laughed, talked, people watched (which is quite enjoyable on the redneck riviera), shopped, and ate.

We decided that we are 45 or maybe even 70, because we somehow managed to eat at two of our favorite restaurants without waiting for even one minute. Something that is unheard of in July at the beach. But then we realized we went to eat at the strangest times ever and were surrounded by the elderly. It is something I am okay with.

All in all it was a great weekend. I can't wait for another just like it! I love these girls.

Happy 4th of July on the 5th!

Could Baby Caroline BE any cuter?
I love America! 4th of July is probably one of my favorite holidays because it is so easy and fun. Lots of relaxing and eating, which is a recurring theme in my life. This year, we took it easy and had a very relaxing 4th. We have just been going non-stop since the wedding that we needed to just chill out. We ate a yummy lunch with friends and just relaxed and laughed together. We cleaned the house some, and then we headed to Rebecca's for a little 4th celebration. It was so good to catch up with friends and family and just take a moment to have some good ole fun.

Love that America dress!

Thank you to all the men and women that serve our country so that it can continue to be the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Can't wait for this weekend and some much needed time with the friend group! The sun and sand is calling my name!
