The Best Days of Our Life

If you know me, I am sorta a life enthusiast. As in I love getting excited. I absolutely HATE surprises, because my most favorite activity is living in a state of excitement. I love the build up. I also don't have to be excited about anything particularly huge. I may suffer from some sort of disorder because I have been known to be equally excited about a trip to Chick-Fil-A and a trip to the beach. I only think that this makes me well-rounded not weird. I may be wrong.

Well, this past weekend and this upcoming week is sure to be one continuous state of excitement. Friday we had a fun date that was filled with much needed fellowship. I simply love all my friends, but this one is a sure winner. Saturday, we had such a fun and relaxing day at home. Actually, I had that day and Bubba took a test for his class for 4 hours. At one point, I felt guilty for laying in bed and watching football, so I deep cleaned the bathroom and bedroom. Then, I resumed my horizontal position with the dogs snoozing too. Rough life.

Gunnar wanted to turn off the Ole Miss game. He is a Tiger fan.
The best part of Saturday came that afternoon/night. We went to an incredibly sweet wedding of some family friends. I can honestly say that they looked so happy and so in love. It was one of the sweetest weddings I have been too in a while. The groom's sisters (our friend) made me tear up a little. They are definitely a kind and good family. We are always blessed by them. After the wedding, some friends of ours (Corey and Marie) came over to our house for an on the spot football party. We watched the State/Bama game. Ryan came over and joined us too. In about 15 minutes, we had a spread. Complete with pork roast mini sandwiches. I promise you that football and food are in my DNA. At any moment, I feel a girl must be ready for some team spirit and that involves food. Look it up. I bet Southern Living agrees.

Yum. State may have lost, but we had a blast.

Sunday, we had a blessed day with family. We went to church with Bubba's sister's family. It was a great service and then we had good family fellowship after. We even ate dinner together too. I can't complain about that kind of day! The girls were as cute and sweet as ever. We had fun getting to see their clubhouse at the lot. It was super cool. My favorite moments always come from talking to these girls. A had some great things to say, and we are so proud of the little smarty she is becoming. She wrote all our names and even spelled out Bubba mostly by her self. Smart cookie. Here is a conversation between L and me:

L: You can come to our clubhouse and be in our club. But, you need to ask your mama and daddy first.
Me: Well, I will be sure to ask them.
L: Good, you gotta ask your daddy.

Haha. I guess I should be sure to ask Jim. We are excited about this week and especially Halloween! Let's just hope my excitement stays at a healthy minimum. Although, with this weather, that may be too much to ask. Fall has arrived.

Boots. Crunchy Leaves. YES!

Merry Football. Happy Halloween. Fall Lovin' Friends!

Date Night: SURPRISE edition

Our best friends Will and Whitney met Bubba and I at one of my favorite restaurants to eat, drink, and be merry. The fun part was the boys surprised us with the other pair! We had a blast, and legitimately had some great fellowship. Will and I discussed football and Bubba and Whit discussed books. Everyone had a blast! I sure do love our friends. I miss the days sometimes of living in the 2 car garage with Whit. Except I am thankful now for central heat and air. Thanks for the great night boys!

Costume Love

I love a costume and a theme. I like to think I have an active imagination, and not simply a creeper. Growing up I was typically a cat or a hobo for Halloween, which I know realize is code for oops its the day of Halloween and you don't have a costume. I do not blame Sheryl for this. It was tough in the BPE days, i.e. Before Pinterest Era. While I can and will never be able to compete with these people (not random internet finds, but kinfolk if you will)...

Bun in the oven and the Baker
I do look forward to some GREAT holiday fun dressing up! And yes, Christmas is obviously a dress up time as well. Maybe I can get Bubba to dress up as a Pilgrim with me for Thanksgiving. Then we could have the trifecta of holiday wear. A hat-trick for you soccer fans. Behold the costumes of holiday past!

80's work-out girl

This is a personal fave. Homemade Care Bears. He sure does love me.

Tacky Christmas. Makes me so happy!

The Grinch and his dog Max (or May since I'm a girl).
I suppose since Halloween is next week I need to get on that costume! What ever will we be?

Gertie Turns 1!!

Today our Gert Girl turned the big 0-1! She is the sweetest puppy with a whole lot of disobedience sass. We do love our dog and celebrated her one year mark with a big dose of peanut butter. She was even so kind as to let Gunnar lick her face for any of the leftovers. Which consequently sicked Bubba and I out. We love Gertie and she was the best Christmas present I ever got!

The day we picked her up. So sweet.

I cannot believe how much she has changed in these two pictures.

That face could kill with cuteness!

Happy Birthday!!!

Happy day Gert! I hope you have tons tons tons more!

In My Head...

At times, people in my life may have referred to me as stubborn as a mule strong-willed. Well, today I upped the ante, and I went head to head with Mississippi Fall. Let's safely say that even though I want to wear a scarf and boots and tights just because it is October does not mean that I can ignore a high of 87. Boo. Hiss. So, I am hot and sweating like a sinner in church. Fail.

Now on to more pleasant things in my head and some weekend recap. This weekend, we celebrated our best friend's one year old. He and Andy are buds. Happy Birthday Bud!!

Even though today is hot as blazes, we have had some reprieve from the heat which subsequently inspired holiday decor and cooking.  Erin came over and we made some SINFUL treats. I don't even know how to describe them except to say that anyone prone to diabetes should not be in a 5 mile vicinity. One portion of the recipe actually called for brown sugar, regular sugar, and "light" corn syrup. The "light" part totally made a difference...

I mean. Lord. Yum. Heaven help us.

Four pumpkins size appropriate for Bubba, Me, Gert, and Gun.
Saturday night, we celebrated a big friend's birthday, as in over the age of 6. It was a lot of fun to chill and hangout with all of my friends. Those times are always fun. Always too short. And always too infrequent. It's almost like we all have jobs now... oh wait. While we were there, Sara's baby (now not so little) loved Bubba's shoes. This picture is just too sweet.

This post has been sufficiently random. The main take away is that I want Fall to HURRY UP!!! I mean really is it so hard to dip to a cool 70?!?!? I don't have high expectations. Below 80 is scarf weather here. At least I know the cutest pumpkin in the pumpkin patch. See if you can find her...

Happy Fall...or Summer in October. Whatever. Megan Out.

Some Friday Favorites

It's Friday!!! Woohoo! I am so ready for the weekend! It is sure to be a good one. Here are some things I am loving today.

  • My new flats. I mean. They make work better.

  • My funny brother and my sweet niece! (Plus this is the story of our house this week)

  • Homemade Chicken and Rice this week. (Recipe to below.)

  • Our puppies that are really, really starting to love each other!

  •  My parents who are coming to visit today!!
Ain't they cute.
I am so blessed with a great life and all these favorites. Have a safe and happy weekend! Recipe below. :)

Chicken and Rice

About 6 servings.

4 chicken breasts
2 cups of rice
4 cups of chicken broth
Various veggies (Here I used 1cup of each: carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, corn, and an onion)
about 4 tablespoons Olive Oil
2 table spoons Worcestershire Sauce
Garlic Powder
Cracked Black Pepper

Directions:

Boil chicken broth, add in rice when comes to a boil. After broth and rice return to a boil reduce heat to low. Cook for 20 minutes.

In a separate pan, saute chicken (cubed) and onion in olive oil and Worcestershire. Add about 2 teaspoons garlic powder and cracked pepper. Once chicken is no longer pink. Add in veggies, reduce heat to low and cover for about 5-7 minutes.

After rice is cooked, combine chicken and veggies. Enjoy! I top with a bit of Cajun seasoning for a kick.

Impulsive.

Well, this past weekend was so much fun! We welcomed sweet, rollie pollie Gunnar into the family. His entrance into the family was quite funny so I figured I needed to record it for posterity.

Bubba told me that "this was the most impulsive thing I have ever done." Which made me die laughing, and realize that the Lord put me with him to make him a quick mover (or just slightly faster than turtle speed). You see, we have been discussing getting a second dog for at least 6 months...Hardly an impulsive gum purchase at the Kroger. However, little Gunnar was not a thought on Wednesday or even Friday morning, and by 8:30 AM Saturday Gert had a little brother. (In the words of my sister in law, good things babies take 9 months).

We had been play looking at dogs on Friday, when I came across a breeder that had Miniature Australian Shepherds and Corgis. (Gertie is a Corgi). This made me laugh and so I investigated slightly more. Aussies grow to be a good size and had such great traits I decided that the boy puppy she had left was destined to be ours. The breeder was about 2 hours away so I figured that is not bad at all. I called her and she said she was actually going to be in our town the next day for a rodeo. Clearly that is a sign. So I basically told Bubba he had no choice and that puppy was ours :).

He agreed and the rest is history! Good thing that Gert and Gun get along swimmingly. Although, Gertie is still trying to love hard sometimes. She has 2 speeds 0 or 100 (much, much like her mama).

Already play buds

He is such a sweetie. I cannot wait to see the escapades they get in to together. Hopefully, they will make me laugh and not cry when I see things like shredded paper everywhere.

Ten. Eleven. Twelve.

The date is fun today. To commemorate this fun date, we went on a fun date. Ha. Not really but the title is creative. Ladies and gentlemen, its time for the Mississippi State Fair!! No other time is more exciting, except maybe Christmas and my birthday. I am only half way kidding. Bubba and I headed to the land of bad for you food and mullets galore!

Please enjoy all the pictures below! My favorite part was hand down the pig races. And the petting zoo. And all the yummy fried smells!
